The Federal Government has kick-started the Federal Government’s emergency intervention on the Benin–Asaba Highway under the Ministry’s “Operation Rescue” initiative, aimed at restoring safe, smooth, and uninterrupted movement along the critical corridor.  The intervention, to be carried out by the Ministry of Works, through the hiring of equipment and direct implementation, is a demonstration of its determination to address the severe deterioration of sections of the road and bring immediate relief to motorists, commuters, businesses, and the affected communities.  The Minister made this known during the inauguration of  "Operation Rescue Benin -Asaba Expressway at Benin City, Edo State on Thursday, 24 September, 2026.  The Benin–Asaba Highway is a strategic Federal Highway that commences at AIF Roundabout in Benin City, Edo State, and terminates at Summit Junction in Asaba, Delta State, with a distance of 125km.  It was concessioned to the Benin-Asaba Expressw...

The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi,  has received an assessment report by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Federal Government road infrastructure projects inspected across the North-West Zone.  The report was presented to the Minister at the Ministry’s Conference Hall, Mabushi, Abuja, by the President of NANS, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez.  The assessment followed a nationwide student-led inspection initiative aimed at enabling Nigerian students to obtain first-hand information on the progress, quality and relevance of Federal Government infrastructure projects. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has updated the public on the ongoing restoration works along the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi Transmission Line, following the collapse of tower T367 along the line corridor, recently. TCN noted that  significant progress has been recorded at the affected location in Yauri, where restoration activities are being carried out. According to the Management of TCN, the collapsed transmission tower has now been completely dismantled and decommissioned, while the conductors and skywire have been properly aligned and prepared for the next stage of the restoration process. "In addition, an Emergency Restoration System (ERS) tower has been moved to the site and is ready for installation. The nationwide inspection of Federal Government road projects by the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has given a fresh dimension to the conversation around the infrastructure programme of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, with the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, describing roads as “freedom” for Nigerians. Receiving the report of the students’ inspection tour in Abuja on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Umahi commended the student leaders for choosing to physically inspect the projects rather than relying solely on political narratives, government reports or what they hear from others. As Pertamina Eyes 2026 Licensing Round Indonesian National Oil Company, Pertamina has signaled an interest in the upcoming 2026 licensing round. This is as the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and Indonesia has  opened discussions on petroleum investments. This is as a result of a recent meeting between the Chief Executive of NUPRC, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, and Indonesia's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arif Havas Oegroseno; and Toriq Abdat, the Vice President for upstream business development at Pertamina.  Eyesan said the two countries come to the table with similar priorities which are energy security, resource utilization and attracting investments. The talks stemmed from the determination of  both countries to work and increase production. Nigeria currently produces approximately 1.7 million barrels of oil per day and is targeting 3 million by 2030 while Indonesia produces roughly 600,000 barrels daily and seeks to hit 2.3 million by 2030...

The Federal Government  has commenced an emergency intervention to address the persistent traffic gridlock along the Maje-Dikko axis of the Suleja–Minna corridor. This is as the Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, directed the concessionaire to complete the immediate remedial works within 48 hours to restore the free flow of traffic. Goronyo gave the directive on Friday, 18th September 2026, during an inspection of the affected section of the road, where he expressed concern over the hardship being experienced by motorists, commuters, truck drivers and other road users who have been trapped in the gridlock for several days.
