Maden Healthcare Foundation Officially Declare May, Month Of Menstrual Health.

Maden Healthcare Foundation has officially declared the month of May as Menstrual Health Month, launching a nationwide campaign aimed at advancing menstrual health awareness, improving access to hygiene resources, and addressing the systemic challenges faced by girls and women across Nigeria.

As part of this initiative, the Foundation will implement coordinated outreach activities across 30 states, with a target of reaching at least 10,000 adolescent girls through education, community engagement, and the distribution of menstrual hygiene products.

Menstrual health remains a critical but often overlooked issue affecting millions of girls in Nigeria. Limited access to sanitary products, inadequate school facilities, and persistent stigma continue to impact girls’ health, dignity, and ability to remain in school.

Speaking on the initiative, Founder and Executive Director of the Foundation, Dr Eseoghene Okparavero-Agbatutu, stated that, "Declaring May as Menstrual Health Month is a call to action. We are committed to breaking the silence, addressing period poverty, and ensuring that every girl has the support she needs to thrive. This campaign is about creating awareness, driving collaboration, and scaling impact across communities.”

The Menstrual Health Month campaign will feature:

* School and community-based awareness programs

* Distribution of menstrual hygiene products

* Stakeholder engagement and advocacy initiatives

The campaign will culminate in a National Virtual Summit scheduled for May 30, 2026, themed: “Menstrual Health Without Barriers: Voices, Solutions & Action.”

The summit will bring together stakeholders across the health, education, and development sectors to discuss challenges, share solutions, and promote collective action. It will also mark the launch of the Nigeria School Health and Menstrual Equity Network (NSHMEN) — a national coalition designed to strengthen collaboration and advance menstrual equity across Nigeria.

Since its establishment in 2021, Maden Healthcare Foundation has Reached over 25,000 girls, distributed more than 30,000 sanitary pads, and provided critical menstrual health support to underserved communities.

The Foundation is therefore calling on organizations, partners, and individuals to support the campaign through funding, product donations, and collaboration.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered what it described as one of the worst counterfeit medicine operations in recent years, seizing over 10 million doses of fake and banned drugs hidden in warehouses in Lagos State.  The agency said the illicit products, valued at over ₦3 billion, were recovered from multiple warehouse structures located around the Trade Fair–Navy axis of the state. Briefing journalists in Lagos NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement and Chairman of the Federal Task Force on Fake and Substandard Products, Martins Iluyomade, said the discovery followed intelligence gathered during a training meeting held on February 3. “Acting on information from that meeting, our team visited the location and found multiple warehouse structures built like residential houses but used solely for storage,” Iluyomade said.
