APEC MOURNS CROSS RIVER STATE COMMISSIONER FOR ENERGY AND POWER, HON. PRINCE EKA

The Abuja Power and Energy Correspondents (APEC) has received with deep shock the passing of the Commissioner for Energy and Power, Cross River State, Hon. Prince Williams Eka, a distinguished public servant and passionate advocate for the development of the power and energy sector.

He was also the chairman of commissioners of energy and power in Nigeria.

He reportedly died in Abuja on Sunday, September 13, 2026, after reportedly collapsing and being rushed to a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory.

In a Press Statement signed by Ralph Ekpang, Secretary of the Group, it stated stated that,  the Commissioner's death is a painful loss not only to the Government and people of Cross River State but also to Nigeria’s wider energy community, where he distinguished himself as a committed professional and stakeholder in the quest for improved electricity access and sustainable energy development.

"As Commissioner for Energy and Power, Hon. Prince Eka was associated with efforts aimed at advancing the energy agenda of Cross River State and promoting greater attention to the critical role of electricity in driving economic growth, investment, job creation and improved living standards.

”His contributions to the energy sector earned him respect among stakeholders, while his engagements with the media reflected his understanding of the importance of accurate information, public accountability and constructive collaboration in advancing the nation’s power sector.

"APEC particularly mourns the loss of a public official whose responsibilities placed him at the centre of conversations on energy development and whose service contributed to the broader national discourse on the need to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity value chain.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Cross River State, his colleagues, associates, friends and, most importantly, members of his immediate family.

At this difficult moment, APEC shares in the grief of all those who mourn his passing and prays that God Almighty will grant his family the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. The statement reads

ExxonMobil Visits NUPRC, Considers FID On $8bn Owowo Project Early Next Year

Following a high-level discussions with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) in Abuja, ExxonMobil has signalled plans to take a final investment decision (FID) on its $7bn–$8bn Owowo deepwater project as early as next year.  in a statement by Eniola Akinkuotu, Head Media and Corporate Communications, he stated that indication emerged during a visit by ExxonMobil executives to the Commission’s headquarters, where the company briefed regulators on its renewed multi-billion-dollar investment pipeline in Nigeria’s offshore sector. Speaking during the engagement, ExxonMobil’s Senior Vice President, Deepwater, Hunter Farris, said the company’s confidence in Nigeria had been strengthened by improvements in the country’s investment climate, prompting a strategic recommitment to upstream operations.
